Stand Firm

The Greek phrase for “stand firm” implies stability, firmness, and strong devotion to something. The Corinthians of old and modern Christians are encouraged to remain committed to Christ and devoted to Him. Several metaphors come into play here. One can think of a tree standing firm against a strong wind, soldiers holding down a fort, or a spouse supporting an ailing partner. To stand fast is to be loyal, faithful, devoted, and unmoving.

Heroes: Joseph

Jacob's 11th son, Joseph, is sold by his brothers into slavery and taken to Egypt. He is falsely accused, imprisoned, and seemingly forgotten. Then he rises to power through interpreting dreams including the Pharaoh's. With God's help, Joseph prepares Egypt against future famine. He reconciles with with his family when they arrive seeking food. Joseph invites them to live with him in Egypt, and promises the Israelites that God will bring them out of Egypt back to the Promise Land.

Come Home

Sometimes we drift, sometimes we run. But here’s the good news—no matter how far you’ve gone, you can always return to Jesus. You don’t have to have it all together. You have to take the first step. You might think it’s too late. That you’ve messed up too much. That the door is closed. But here’s the truth: You can always come home. Whether you’ve been away from Jesus for a little while or a long time, you’re not forgotten. You are loved, you are wanted, and you are welcome.
